Engebret Café 1857, Oldest restaurant in Oslo

The Engebret Café has served Norwegian home cooking since 1857. Patrons include well-known local and foreign cultural personalities who have assembled in our historic premises to enjoy good food and an authentic atmosphere either everyday or for special occasions. We are proud of our heritage and tirelessly toil to develop classic foods for the modern palate. Our philosophy: It takes time to cook - and eat - good food. Our influences are international but our starting point is our take on Norwegian cuisine with a keen respect for raw materials, their origin and the craft of cooking.

Lunch at Engebret Café

Since 1862, we served sandwiches at Engebret Café. Our large sandwich buffet is covered inside the restaurant. Monday to Friday between 11.30 and 14.00. Then it can often be full, it is wise to book a table.
We also have a lunsj a la carte

The restaurant

Guests enter the low corner building originating from the 1700's, Oslo's oldest restaurant, where staff and guests could celebrate Engebret Café's 161th anniversary in 2017. When it opened, the restaurant was located right opposite the old Christiania Theater and was often visited by actors and audience.

Engebret Café has always been one of Oslo's most important meeting places for the nation's public figures, press, business leaders and private individuals. Garden restaurant

In April we open our restaurant outside. The restaurant then increases in size. From 240 chairs inside to a total of about 340 .
