The restaurant

Guests enter the low corner building originating from the 1700's, Oslo's oldest restaurant, where staff and guests can celebrate Engebret Café's 150th anniversary in 2007. When it opened, the restaurant was located right opposite the old Christiania Theater and was often visited by actors and audience.
Engebret also provides banquet services, designed to accommodate both small and large gatherings.

In April we open our restaurant outside. The restaurant then increases in size. From 240 chairs inside to a total of about 340 .
This is a very well recommended place for your business dinner or lunch


For a sampling of traditional Norwegian cuisine, like medallions of reindeer in a sauce of port and raisins, head over to Engebret Café a quietly elegant restaurant set in a low-slung 17th-century building. If the weather is nice, grab one of the 30 or so outdoor tables, where the voices of the other patrons are softened by the sound of the bubbling fountain in the adjoining courtyard.

Top of the town

Oslo's oldest restaurant, at which Ibsen, Grieg and others had regular tables, is Engebret Cafe (Bankplassen, 2282 2525, engebret-cafe.no).

Our Menu

We are serving traditional Norwegian food, and our menus are following the seasons in Norway. We always have reindeer on the menu, all year.
In January is it fresh cod from the North of Norway, served the traditional way, we also have many others fish dishes on the menu.
In the springtime and summer we serve seafood and seafood platters, and asparagus, wild salmon
In the fall the Norwegian lamb and game meet is on the menu, and also fresh mushrooms.
In October we start serving our famous Lutefisk, and from November we have a lot Christmas dishes on the menu.
